New sailors and parents of new sailors should be aware that the skills for sailing are not just what happens on the water but also include prior and post sailing activities, such as rigging and de-rigging boats. It is important that the boats used are properly looked after, whether it's privately owned or a Club boat. It is the sailor's responsibility to wash down, de-rig and neatly put away the boat that they have used where it was previously stored and not left on the beach or on the grass area in front of the club for others to deal with.
Parents assistance to ensure boats are cleaned and returned to the original location is greatly appreciated. Please also be mindful of other sailors property especially boats stored on the premises. Minor scrapes can damage boats and be costly to repair.
Rigging Lawn and Access
Townsille Sailing Club is lucky to have access to one of the most picturesque rigging lawns in Australia, at the southern end of Townsville's Strand Beach. Vehicle access to rigging lawn is from Mariners Drive via the driveway adjacent to the club-house. Trailers can be left in rigging lawn area while you sail, however, vehicles will need to be parked elsewhere, as space can be limited and the rigging lawn is council land. Vehicle parking within the Breakwater Marina precinct is by permit, with TSC club members elgible for an annual permit. Parking on the nearby Strand is free. During larger regattas, sailors may also be required to remove trailers from the rigging lawn to ensure adequate space is available. Vehicle access is via the driveway adjacent the club-house only - no vehicles are to access the rigging lawn via the Strand pedestrian pathway.
Storage of Boats at TSC
Townsville Sailing Club provides space for the storage of a limited number of club member personal boats at our club house. Annual fees apply for stored boats, as well as our terms and conditions as outlined in our Boat Storage agreement 2024 please email for more details.
